PURGIT® CO2 vaporizer

PURGIT has a mobile unit that can vaporize liquid CO2, argon or nitrogen to make gas for the purpose of euthanizing chickens or bird flocks.

PURGIT CO2 vaporizer

PURGIT has a mobile unit that can vaporize
CO2, argon or nitrogen liquid. This is an expeditious method of making high grade inert gas in large quantities. We can arrange for CO2, argon or nitrogen liquid to supply the vaporizer anywhere in the USA or Canada. The gas made by vaporizing liquid has virtually zero oxygen content.

The photo above shows the vaporizer on a trailer. We also have a generator and propane fuel tanks so it is self contained.

Bird houses can be enclosed with plastic and the birds euthanized thereby stopping the spread of bird virus. CO2 and argon are heavy gases with a specific gravity of about 1.5 times air. That means that they can fill a room or building with gas by displacement, much like filling with water. The gas can displace air reasonably efficiently. Although leaks must be sealed, the heavy gas will stay in a secured space for some time, even days. Usually it disipates by the room or tank space 'breathing' which is the natural expansion and contraction from the heat of day and cool of night. This effect can be overcome by continuously adding a small stream of the inert gas.

PURGIT has used this technique
with CO2 to displace air from oil storage tanks many times. The oxygen is displaced and the inert atmosphere that takes its place will not support combustion (or life for that matter).

NOTE: Cartridge type gas masks will not protect personnel in an atmosphere with reduced
O2.

Extreme caution must be exerted to keep personnel out of enclosed spaces when they are filled with inert
gas. CO2 has an interesting property that is advantageous - It has a strong odor when concentrated that may warn personnel of its' presence. Although most Material Safety Data Sheets say that CO2 does not have an odor, it does have a strong odor, or perhaps more precisely a reaction to the interaction of the gas in the olfactory or sinus areas. CO2 is a reasonably priced liquid / gas.

CO
2 may be a better choice over nitrogen which does not displace well. That is because N2 has a specific gravity so close to air. Another drawback is that nitrogen does not have any odor. Argon it is more expensive and does not have an odor, which are both drawbacks in our opinion. The PURGIT vaporizer can handle cryogenic liquids even nitrogen or argon.

The nominal flow rate is 70 pounds per minute of liquid which makes about 580 cubic feet per minute of
CO2 gas. The flow rate can go as high as 85 pounds for short periods. The standard delivery tanker holds about 20 tons of CO2 - about 330,000 standard cubic feet. Flow for argon and nitrogen are somewhat higher than CO2.
