Soil remediation units

If solvents are spilled into soil, it is sometimes possible to remediate the earth. This is done by drilling a number of shallow wells (10' to 15' deep) in the affected area and then keeping those wells evacuated. An engineer should direct the well installation and placement because correct well placement requires a study of the area hydrology.

Once the shallow wells are placed, a vacuum skid can keep the wells evacuated. The purpose of the skid is to
separate the gas and the liquid. The gases may be sent to a flare or other vapor control device and the liquid is usually sent to a treatment station. The recovered solvents may be separated from water and both streams processed apropriately. Sometimes, actually, most of the time it is not easy to separate the water and solvent. They seem to come up as an emulsion, requiring biological waste treatment.

PURGIT built and installed 2 separators and a ground flare in July 2003 at a Houston, TX facility. These separators are for a soil remediation project. The blowers on the separator skids move about 150 scfm of  gas and 60 gpm of liquid from shallow wells. The nature of the recovered ground water and solvent has changed over the months the units have been on line. In the beginning there was a high percentage of solvent and littler water, and now there is a high percentage of water and very little solvent. The exhaust gas from the separators is enriched with propane and burned in a gas flare.

We can build and install these units.
